I. What is WorkBuddy?

WorkBuddy is an all-scenario workplace AI agent desktop workstation developed by Tencent, positioned as your dedicated “AI colleague.” Unlike pure chat AI such as ChatGPT, WorkBuddy understands your natural language commands, thinks independently on your computer, breaks down tasks, plans execution steps, and ultimately delivers work results that are ready for review. It supports writing Word documents, creating Excel spreadsheets, generating PowerPoint presentations, organizing folders, and even executing tasks on a scheduled, automated basis. In a nutshell: it doesn’t just chat with you – it gets work done for you.

II. Download / Installation

System Requirements: Windows 10/11 or macOS 10.15+, 8GB RAM recommended, approximately 500MB disk space.

Download: Visit the official WorkBuddy website: https://www.codebuddy.cn/work/ and select the version corresponding to your operating system (Windows or macOS). The Windows installer is WorkBuddySetup.exe (approx. 150–180 MB), and the macOS version is WorkBuddy.dmg.

Installation:

Windows: Double-click the installer and follow the setup wizard by clicking “Next” to complete the installation.

macOS: Double-click the .dmg file and drag the WorkBuddy icon into the “Applications” folder. If prompted that the app “cannot be opened,” go to System Settings → Security & Privacy → allow the app to run.

Once installation is complete, WorkBuddy will launch automatically.

III. First-Time Login and Configuration

Account Login: After launching, log in using WeChat QR code scan or phone number. It is recommended to log in with your WeCom (Enterprise WeChat) or QQ account to enable remote control features.

Grant Folder Access: On first use, the system will prompt you to authorize WorkBuddy to access local folders. It is recommended to grant access only to the Desktop and Documents directories – full disk access is not required.

Claim New User Credits: After logging in, the first thing to do is click on your avatar in the lower-left corner of the client → go to “Personal Center” → “Usage” or “Gift Pack,” and manually claim the new user bonus credits (2,100–5,000 credits, valid for 90 days).

IV. Three Working Modes

WorkBuddy offers three working modes that can be flexibly selected based on task type:

Plan (Planning) Read-only files, create plans Complex tasks – generate a plan first, then execute after confirmation
Craft (Execution) Read/write files, execute tasks Letting AI actually do the work
Recommendation: Use Ask mode for simple Q&A; for complex tasks, first use Plan mode to review the plan, then switch to Craft mode for execution once everything looks good.

V. Core Features and Usage

Daily Office Work: Switch to the “Daily Office” scenario at the top of the client and enter your request. For example, enter “Help me write a leave request email, 3 days off, reason: family matters” – WorkBuddy will generate a draft email directly.

Skill Marketplace: WorkBuddy has a built-in skill marketplace where you can install various AI skills as needed, such as PDF processing, public account writing, browser automation, and more.

Remote Control: After linking with WeCom, QQ, Feishu, or DingTalk, you can remotely command your computer to execute tasks from your phone anytime, anywhere.

Model Switching: Supports switching between multiple large models including Hunyuan, DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi, and MiniMax.

VI. Credit System (Free Users)

New User Bonus: 2,100–5,000 credits upon first login

Monthly Free Allowance: Free-tier users receive 500 credits automatically on the 1st of each month

Credit Consumption Reference:

Simple Q&A: 10–30 credits

Weekly report / summary: 30–50 credits

Table/data organization: 50–150 credits

Complex proposals: 200–800 credits

Earn Credits: Publish usage experiences (+500 credits per article) or tutorials (+1,000 credits per article) in the Tencent Cloud Developer Community

VII. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will it randomly modify my files?
A: No. Ask and Plan modes are read-only and do not modify files. In Craft mode, every operation shows you the result for review first – changes are only written after your confirmation.

Q: What if I run out of credits?
A: You receive a monthly free allowance, and you can also earn extra credits through check-ins, publishing articles, inviting friends, and other methods.
