European Space Agency’s 2025 budget reaches 7.68 billion euros
European Space Agency introduced at a press conference on the 9th that its 2025 budget reached 7.68 billion euros, 110 million euros less than 2024.
Esa Director Joseph Aschbach said at the meeting that 62.6% of the budget funds came from member states, 22.3% from the European Union, 1.4% from the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, and the rest from other channels; among the member states, France, Germany and Italy ranked the top three with 21.3%, 18.8% and 15.8% of the funding respectively.
Aschbach introduced that about one-third of the budget funds will be used for earth observation programs, 12.5% for navigation, 10.6% for connectivity and secure communications, and 9.8% for space transportation.
According to data provided by Esa at the press conference, Europe’s investment in public space projects accounts for 0.06% of Europe’s GDP, lower than 0.26% of the United States and 0.17% of Russia. In the field of global aerospace investment, including civil and defense, the United States accounts for 64% of the global total investment, ranking first; Europe accounts for 11%, far lower than the United States.
