Sudan’s new prime minister announces dissolution of government

On June 1, local time, Sudan’s new prime minister Kamil Idris announced the dissolution of the current government and appointed the secretary-general or deputy secretary-general of each government department to be responsible for the current government work until the new government is established.

On May 19 this year, Burhan, chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, issued an order appointing Idris as prime minister. On May 31, Idris was sworn in as prime minister in the eastern city of Port Sudan, becoming the first prime minister to take office in Sudan since October 2021.

On April 15, 2023, an armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces in the capital Khartoum, and the war then spread to other areas. The armed conflict that has lasted for more than two years has killed about 29,700 people in Sudan and displaced about 12.9 million people.
