Toyota obtains land in Shanghai for Lexus production plant
Toyota invested 1.3 billion yuan in Shanghai to obtain a piece of land, which will be used to build a factory for its high-end brand “Lexus”.
Toyota has established a wholly-owned enterprise “Lexus (Shanghai) New Energy” to develop and produce pure electric vehicles (EV) according to the needs of the Chinese market. This land will be used to build a production plant.
The website of the Shanghai authorities shows that Lexus (Shanghai) New Energy has obtained 1.12 million square meters of land in Jinshan District in the southwest of Shanghai. The land use period is 50 years.
The new factory of Lexus (Shanghai) New Energy is expected to have an annual production capacity of about 100,000 vehicles, and is scheduled to start production after 2027. About 1,000 new jobs will be created.
