In June 2024, a Japanese mother and son were stabbed with a knife and a Chinese woman died in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. The Chinese man who was charged with intentional homicide and sentenced to death has been executed. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed the news. It is said that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the Japanese Embassy in China of the relevant situation on April 16.

The person executed was Zhou Jiasheng, a death row inmate. The Suzhou Intermediate People’s Court pronounced the death sentence on him in January 2025.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference on the 17th: “We seriously accept the execution of the punishment and strongly demand that China guarantee the safety of Japanese in China.”

The incident occurred at a bus stop where the Japanese school bus stopped. The Japanese mother and preschool boy who were waiting for the bus at the station were injured, and the school bus guide, Chinese woman Hu Youping, who tried to stop the criminal from committing the crime, was stabbed to death.

In China, a Japanese boy was stabbed to death in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province in September 2024. The Chinese man who committed the crime was sentenced to death in January 2025.
