Nissan plans to invest 10 billion yuan in China by the end of 2026
Nissan Motor revealed on April 23 that it will invest an additional 10 billion yuan in China by the end of 2026. Nissan’s business in China is struggling as competition with local companies such as BYD, a giant in pure electric vehicles (EV), intensifies. Nissan will add new models that can compete with local Chinese companies and make a comeback in the world’s largest Chinese market.
Stephen Ma, who is in charge of Nissan’s China business, revealed the above news at the Shanghai International Auto Show, which opened in Shanghai, China on the 23rd.
Nissan unveiled the plug-in hybrid pickup truck “Frontier Pro”. It will be launched in China in 2025 and expand overseas markets. It will also launch the pure electric strategic vehicle “N7” through a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group. Nissan hopes to restore its performance by strengthening the development of new vehicles such as new energy vehicles.
Nissan’s sales in China in 2023 will be about 790,000 vehicles, which is about half of the sales in 2018 (about 1.56 million vehicles) five years ago.
