The United States announced measures to boost the domestic shipbuilding industry
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced measures to boost the domestic shipbuilding industry on the 17th local time. Some of the measures include that in order to encourage American-built car carriers, after 180 days, foreign-built car carriers will be charged a fee based on their capacity, starting at $150 per car (CEU).
In order to encourage American-built liquefied natural gas carriers, foreign ships transporting liquefied natural gas will face limited restrictions after 3 years, which will be gradually increased over 22 years. No fees will be charged for dry bulk carriers that arrive empty to prepare to export American goods. All parties must submit comments and feedback on the proposed measures by May 19.
