The United States imposes 145% tariffs on China
The White House announced on April 10 that the cumulative tariff rate on China has reached 145%. The White House made this statement in an interview with the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
On April 9, Trump said that “tariffs on China will be raised to 125%.”
Initially, the White House explained in an interview with the Nihon Keizai Shimbun that this included the 20% tariff increase launched in February and March. On April 10, the explanation was changed, saying that the 125% did not include the previous 20%.
After the correction of the explanation, the “reciprocal tariff” rate imposed by the United States on China is 125%. In addition to the additional 20% tariff launched in February and March to combat the illegal drug fentanyl, the cumulative rate is 145%.
The Tariff Commission of the State Council of China issued an announcement today (11th) that on April 10, 2025, the US government announced that the “reciprocal tariff” rate on Chinese goods exported to the United States will be further increased to 125%.
In accordance with the Tariff Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Foreign Trade Law of the People’s Republic of China and other laws and regulations and the basic principles of international law, and with the approval of the State Council, the additional tariffs on imported goods originating from the United States will be adjusted from April 12, 2025. The additional tariff rate stipulated in the “Announcement of the State Council Tariff Commission on Adjusting the Additional Tariffs on Imported Goods Originating from the United States” (Tax Commission Announcement No. 5 of 2025) will be increased from 84% to 125%.
