On February 28, local time, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that, at the request of Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi spoke by phone that day.

Araqchi briefed Lavrov on the measures taken by the Iranian leadership to counter US and Israeli aggression, noting that the US and Israel had once again undermined negotiations on a peaceful resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue. He also informed Lavrov of plans to convene an emergency UN Security Council meeting.

Lavrov condemned the unprovoked armed attacks by the US and Israel against Iran, stating that these actions violated principles and norms of international law and completely disregarded the serious consequences for regional and global stability and security. Lavrov emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran and for the situation to return to the path of political and diplomatic resolution.

Lavrov also stated that Russia is willing to assist in seeking a peaceful solution within mechanisms such as the UN Security Council, based on international law, mutual respect, and a balance of interests.
