Putin ratifies Russia-North Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a legal document on the 9th, ratifying the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed earlier by Russia and North Korea.

On June 19 this year, Putin and Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty in Pyongyang. The Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) passed the treaty on October 24, and the Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) approved the treaty on November 6.

The treaty stipulates that the two sides, based on their own legislation and international obligations, will maintain and develop a comprehensive strategic partnership for a long time on the basis of mutual respect for national sovereignty and territorial inviolability, non-interference in internal affairs, equality and other principles. The two sides agreed to establish a joint activity mechanism and strengthen defense capabilities to prevent war and ensure regional and international peace and security.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty will enter into force on the date of exchange of instruments of ratification.
