North Korean Representative: Firmly Opposes Japan’s Acquisition of a Permanent Seat on the UN Security Council
On the morning of January 21, local time, at the first meeting of intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform at the 80th UN General Assembly, the North Korean delegation stated that firmly opposing Japan’s acquisition of a permanent seat on the Security Council is a consistent position of the North Korean government.
Japan launched wars of aggression, occupying numerous Asian countries and inflicting unspeakable suffering on their people during its colonial rule. Furthermore, Japan has failed to fulfill its responsibility to formally apologize to the victims and provide reasonable compensation. Instead, it glorifies its history of aggression and colonialism by revising textbooks while continuously advancing its militarization process. Such a country is not qualified to be a permanent member of the Security Council.
