Iran arrests more than 700 “traitors”
The war between Israel and Iran was fierce after 12 consecutive days of mutual bombing. In addition to the direct military confrontation, the confrontation behind the scenes was also undercurrent and pointed directly at the key points.
On June 28, Iran held a funeral for the senior commanders and scientists who died.
Xinhua News Agency quoted a report from Iranian media on the 25th that since the 13th of this month, more than 700 people in Iran have been arrested on suspicion of spying for Israel.
Behind this, we have to mention Israel’s intelligence and secret service agency – Mossad.
Israel and Iran were once intelligence “allies”
Many people have heard of the name Mossad. What is less known is that the old enemies of Israel and Iran were once “allies” who shared intelligence.
In 1948, Israel declared its independence, and the first Middle East war broke out amid opposition from a number of Arab countries. At that time, Iran was the second Muslim country after Turkey to recognize Israel’s sovereign state status.
Common geopolitical interests have enabled the newly born Israel to cooperate deeply with the Pahlavi dynasty of Iran in many fields. Israel assisted Iran in establishing an intelligence network, and Iran provided oil resources to Israel.
The Mossad, which Iran is extremely afraid of today, was established in 1949 and is directly under the leadership of the Israeli Prime Minister. Since 1957, Mossad has established a working relationship with the Iranian intelligence agency SAVAK to share intelligence.
The cooperation between the two sides lasted for more than 20 years.
In 1979, the Islamic Revolution broke out in Iran, and the pro-American Pahlavi monarchy was overthrown. The new Iranian regime believes that Israel should not exist and regards the elimination of Israel as a basic national policy. Angry Israel regards Iran as the “most dangerous enemy”.
Overnight, Israel and Iran went from good friends to mortal enemies, and Mossad’s intelligence network in Iran began to play a role.
Mossad’s “Ghost Legion”
When Mossad was first established, it was mainly involved in assisting overseas Jews to immigrate to Israel.
Later, the focus of Mossad’s business became infiltration and elimination, and it gradually became a “shadow” in the Middle East and even the world.
Since 2010, several important Iranian nuclear physicists have been assassinated one after another.
Iran has repeatedly accused Mossad of being the mastermind behind the scenes, but Israel has not responded positively. However, the then Mossad director Meir Dagan proudly said in an interview: “Letting some important Iranian talents be eliminated will obviously make more people feel terrified and refuse to participate in Iran’s nuclear program.”
Last September, a handheld pager explosion occurred in Lebanon, killing many senior members of Hezbollah, shocking the world.
According to CCTV News, a recently retired Mossad agent said in an interview with the US media that the relevant operation had begun more than ten years ago. They implanted explosives in the pagers, set up multiple shell companies, found middlemen to contract and resell them layer by layer, and finally sold about 5,000 pagers to Hezbollah.
