Under the agreement, Indonesia pledged to purchase $15 billion worth of U.S. energy products, $4.5 billion worth of U.S. agricultural products, and 50 Boeing aircraft. For the first time, American ranchers, farmers, and fishermen will have full access to the Indonesian market. In addition, Indonesia will pay a 19% tariff on all goods exported to the United States, while U.S. exports to Indonesia will enjoy tariff-free and non-tariff barrier treatment. “Instead of cooperating with the United States, Canada has taken retaliatory tariff measures,” Trump wrote in the letter. “Starting August 1, 2025, we will impose a 35% tariff on Canadian goods entering the United States, independent of all industry tariffs.”
Trump said that part of the reason for the new tariffs was the flow of fentanyl from Canada to the United States and “unfair trade practices.” If Canada cooperates with the United States to prevent the flow of fentanyl, he will consider adjusting the tariffs.
