Thailand suffers from series of terrorist attacks
According to the Singapore Lianhe Zaobao website on March 9, an explosion and shooting terrorist attack occurred in Sungai Kolok, Narathiwat Province, southern Thailand on the night of the 8th, killing 2 volunteer police officers and injuring 11 people.
The report quoted the Bangkok Post as saying that a vehicle carrying militants stopped outside the Sungai Kolok Town Office at 7:10 pm local time on the 8th.
After getting off the car, the attackers opened fire on the volunteer police on duty and detonated bombs hidden in a car and a motorcycle in the office compound.
Shortly afterwards, also in Sungai Kolok, a bomb exploded next to the railway track at 7:28 pm that night, and another bomb exploded outside a retail mall two minutes later.
Security officials have asked Narathiwat Province to be highly vigilant to prevent more violence and return to normal as soon as possible.
According to reports, an attack also occurred in Saiburi District, neighboring Pattani Province that night.
The attackers opened fire on patrolling forest rangers and local officials. The attack initially caused no casualties, but as they continued their patrol, a bomb exploded, killing one forest ranger and injuring two assistant village chiefs.
According to reports, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin visited Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces on February 23. At the time, he said that he would continue to work hard to end the unrest in the south as soon as possible.
