Apple to invest more than $500 billion in the United States

Apple announced on February 24 that it will invest more than $500 billion in the United States in the next four years. Apple will set up a new factory in Texas to produce artificial intelligence (AI) servers. The Trump administration is promoting the transfer of production to the United States.

Apple and related component companies (suppliers) will build a new factory in Houston, Texas to produce servers for its own generative AI “Apple Intelligence”. These servers have been produced outside the United States before. A new base will also be established in Michigan to expand R&D investment in semiconductor design in the United States.

With the expansion of production in the United States, 20,000 new jobs will be provided. Most of them are R&D-related positions such as semiconductors, machine learning, and software development, and teams focusing on the AI field will be expanded across the United States. Regarding the investment scale of $500 billion, Apple said: “This is the largest spending commitment in the company’s history.”

US President Trump said on February 21 that he had a meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook on the 20th. At the same time, he said: “Cook does not want to pay tariffs and seems to be planning to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in the United States.”

Apple has always used China as its main production base. In particular, most of the iPhones sold in the United States are assembled in China, and the cost may rise due to the additional tariffs imposed by the United States on China. During Trump’s first term in office, he exempted Apple’s products from the tariff list in exchange for Apple’s expansion of investment in the United States.
