The South Korean Ministry of Unification issued a statement on the 13th, saying that the South Korean government has confirmed that North Korea is unilaterally demolishing the Mount Kumgang reunion center for separated families in North Korea’s Mount Kumgang area.

The statement said that the South Korean government expressed great regret for North Korea’s unilateral demolition of the Mount Kumgang reunion center for separated families built through consultations between the two Koreas, and solemnly urged North Korea to immediately stop the demolition.

The statement also said that North Korea has no reason to justify its unilateral demolition, and all responsibilities caused by the incident shall be borne by North Korea. The South Korean government will study relevant legal measures, etc.

North Korea has not yet responded to this.

In August 2005, South Korea and North Korea cooperated to build a reunion center for separated families in the Mount Kumgang area. The Mount Kumgang reunion center covers an area of 50,000 square meters, including a 12-story hotel that can accommodate 1,000 separated families and two three-story office buildings.
