E-commerce platform Temu starts accepting Japanese sellers
The Chinese e-commerce platform “Temu” has begun accepting Japanese sellers. Through localization, the variety of products that suit the preferences of Japanese consumers is increased. It also helps to shorten delivery time, with the goal of attracting more users in Japan.
Companies that have inventory of goods in Japan can list their products on Temu. Initially, it will start by invitation. It is expected to enrich the variety in large-scale goods such as furniture that are difficult to ship from overseas.
Temu has previously implemented the practice of accepting local sellers in the United States, Germany, France and other places. Some countries that are wary of the influx of low-priced goods from China have proposed policies to strengthen tariffs on small-volume goods used by Temu and others. There is also a view that if Temu increases the listing of goods from various countries, it will help avoid the risk of strengthening tariffs.
Amid the saving trend brought about by inflation around the world, Temu’s users continue to grow. According to data from the US research company Sensor Tower, in December 2024, Temu’s global smartphone app monthly active users surpassed its competitor Amazon in the United States.
Temu is operated by a company under China’s Pinduoduo Holdings.
