The UK will invest 2 billion pounds to support the transformation of domestic automakers

The British government announced on December 24 that the current government will invest 2 billion pounds in the automotive industry to support domestic manufacturers to transform and produce zero-emission vehicles, and invest more than 300 million pounds to promote consumer purchasing power.

British Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander launched a consultation on the same day to consult on the zero-emission vehicle target. Heidi Alexander said that the British automotive industry currently employs more than 152,000 employees, and cars are the most valuable export product of the UK.

Heidi Alexander said that the transition to electric vehicles is an important opportunity to attract investment and achieve innovation and sustainable development in the UK. Now, drivers are accepting electric vehicles faster than ever before, and the proportion of electric vehicles in new car sales in the UK is gradually increasing.

According to Alexander, in 2024, the UK will add an average of 56 car charging piles every day, and the locations of charging points will be constantly updated. At present, there are more than 72,000 car charging piles across the UK. By 2030, the government will also introduce 6 billion pounds of private investment to quickly lay a charging point network.

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, a quarter of new cars sold in the UK in November this year were electric vehicles, an increase of 58% from November 2023. According to the survey, 97% of electric car drivers said they would no longer use gasoline and diesel cars.
