To Lam Elected President of Vietnam
International Business News – On July 7, at the first session of the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam, To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, was elected President of Vietnam.
To Lam was born in July 1957 in Hung Yen Province, northern Vietnam, and served for many years in the Ministry of Public Security. From April 2016 to May 2024, To Lam served as Minister of Public Security.
In May 2024, To Lam was elected President. In August 2024, To Lam was elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and in October 2024, he will no longer concurrently serve as President.
On January 23, 2026, To Lam was elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the First Plenum of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
