According to the announcement of the State Taxation Committee of West Kazakhstan, from February 14, 2025, it is prohibited to export unprocessed catfish and pike from Kazakhstan, including to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The ban will last for six months, until August 14, 2025. The department pointed out in the announcement that the move is “for the implementation of non-tariff regulatory measures.”

The fish banned from export include:

Fresh and chilled pike;

Fresh and chilled catfish (except African catfish);

Frozen catfish (except African catfish);

Frozen pike.

The announcement pointed out that the ban does not apply to eviscerated frozen pike and catfish, that is, fish that have been gutted.

“Such products are classified as processed products and are not affected by the restrictive measures. We remind foreign trade practitioners to pay attention to the validity period of the ban and pay close attention to the corresponding product classification to prevent problems when handling customs procedures,” the department said.
