AFP: Death toll in Senegal riots rises to 15
International Business News – The death toll from unrest in Senegal over a two-year prison sentence for opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has risen to 15, Agence France-Presse said.
Earlier, Senego TV, citing the interior minister, reported that nine people had been killed in the unrest.
Senegal’s Interior Ministry said: “On 2 June, six people were found dead, four in the Dakar region and two in the Ziguinchor region.”
The Senegalese opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has been found guilty of indecent assault. A woman who worked at a massage parlor accused Mr. Sonko of raping her. But the court acquitted him of rape and death threats. The trial was held in absentia, and the decision on whether to arrest Sonko will be left to prosecutors.
