2023 International Customs Day

Belgium and its people have the reputation of being bridge builders between people and are famous for finding consensus in complex matters. This partly explains why many international institutions have chosen Brussels as their headquarters.

One of these international organizations is the World Customs Organization (WCO). Under the motto “Borders divide, customs connect” the WCO has been enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administrations for the past 70 years, bringing customs administration closer together and creating standards to improve and unify customs work internationally.

Exactly 70 years ago, on the 26th of January 1953, the World Customs Organization held its very first Council meeting in Brussels. Since 1983, this date has inspired customs around the world to celebrate “World Customs Day”.
