China’s population decreases by 850,000 in 2022
International Business News – On January 17, the National Bureau of Statistics released data showing that in 2022, the total national population decreases and the urbanization rate continues to increase.
The natural population growth rate is -0.60‰
The national population (including the population of 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and active military personnel, excluding residents of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreigners living in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) was 141.75 million at the end of the year, down 850,000 from the end of the previous year. The annual births were 9.56 million, with a birth rate of 6.77 per thousand; deaths were 10.41 million, with a death rate of 7.37 per thousand; and the natural population growth rate was -0.60 per thousand.
There are 32.37 million more men than women
In terms of gender composition, the male population is 720.06 million, the female population is 689.69 million, and the total population gender ratio is 104.69 (with female as 100). In terms of age composition, the working-age population aged 16-59 is 875.56 million, accounting for 62.0% of the national population; the population aged 60 and above is 280.04 million, accounting for 19.8% of the national population, of which 209.78 million are aged 65 and above, accounting for 14.9% of the national population. In terms of urban and rural composition, the resident population in urban areas was 92.71 million, an increase of 6.46 million over the end of the previous year; the resident population in rural areas was 491.04 million, a decrease of 7.31 million; the proportion of urban population in the national population (urbanization rate) was 65.22%, an increase of 0.50 percentage points over the end of the previous year.
