Trudeau announces: Canada’s first ratification

According to the report, Trudeau said in a press release that day: “Today, Canada became the first country to ratify Finland and Sweden’s accession to the NATO protocol. This brings the two countries one step closer to becoming full members of NATO.”

According to reports, earlier in the day, representatives of 30 NATO member countries signed the accession protocol of Finland and Sweden, officially launching the process of NATO’s northern expansion. While Canada ratified the protocol within hours, the process for Finland and Sweden to join NATO could take months to complete.
