According to the NHK reporter who was at the scene to take the story, Abe was bleeding when he fell to the ground and the sound of gunshots was suspected to be heard at the scene.
NHK said that Abe was shot in the chest while giving a speech on the street and was taken to hospital by ambulance. According to police sources, Abe is believed to have been shot from behind with a shotgun.
According to Japan’s MBS News, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe fell to the ground bleeding, unconscious, in cardiopulmonary arrest and in critical condition after a shooting incident at Yamato Nishidaiji Station on the Kintetsu Line in Nara Prefecture around 11:30 a.m. local time (10:30 a.m. Beijing time) on July 8. Police and other authorities are further investigating the situation at the scene.
The Japan News Agency quoted LDP sources as saying that Abe is bleeding from the head and is currently in a state of unconsciousness.
Also according to Kyodo News, Nara police have arrested the man who attacked Abe.
